"Muro" - A Security Wall
Project Muro is Complete!
The project is done on our end. They still have to level the ground and paint the wall, but for now the children of Casa de los Sueños School have a safe area to play.
Here is the school that you helped build this year. It opened in March. La Casa de los Sueños (The House of Dreams) is truly an oasis for these great children who live in incredibly challenging conditions.
The muro will create a recreation area to a provide safe, clean place where kids can play during the day and on weekends, escaping their (at the best) cramped and boring and (at the worst) abusive homes. There are fields in front of the school, but this is where the drunks and drug addicts also hang out. So while most kids know to stay out of their way, it isn’t something we want them to be exposed to any more than they must. They deserve better.
Here, our contractors are measuring for the wall. Here’s the breakdown of the security wall in 11 parts:
1. Stone: $864.01
2. Three truckloads of sand: $135.24
3. Iron for structural reinforcement: $1,224.56
4. Lumber: $187.83
5. Barbed wire: $18.78
6. 10 pound of nails: $11.27
7. 80 bags of cement: $751.31
8. 10 leveling rods for masonry work: $187.83
9. 12 support poles: $112.70
10. 2 truckloads of fine stone (for finishing work): $90.16
11. Labor: $2,253.94
This project has now been funded because of our generous donors! Thank you!
