Who We Are
BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR NEIGHBORS TO NICARAGUA
Our Board of Trustees is comprised of the following committed members who ensure our programming aligns with our mission and vision and fulfills both the educational and critical needs of our children, youth, and families. We are grateful for their time, advisement, and unending generosity to the people of Nicaragua.
Mike Keenan, Chair
Mike first learned of our organization while he and his family were preparing for an extended visit to Nicaragua during the summer of 2014. Since then, the Keenan family has helped Neighbors to Nicaragua in a variety of ways, both from the United States and during subsequent trips to Nicaragua. A management consultant for Patlin Solutions LLC, Mike brings a variety of talents, experiences, and values to our organization, including a background in business administration, conversational-level Spanish, and a true interest in aiding the communities we serve.
Michael Lucey, Member
Michael co-owns three restaurants in the greater Delaware area: Ulysses Gastropub in Wilmington, DE, Six Paupers Tavern in Hockessin, DE and Forgotten Mile Ale House in Rehoboth Beach, DE. In addition to serving on our board, Michael has volunteered at our Nicaraguan sites and with our affiliate partners, such as Education Plus. He is pictured here with a few of our Education Plus students. Our growth as an organization would not be possible without Mike’s ingenuity and generosity.
Francesca Vavala, Member
Francesca Vavala works at Intech Services in the marketing department and is also a licensed Realtor® with Delaware Homes. She has been involved in events for Neighbors to Nicaragua including the 5k, the guest bartender night, and the oldies dance and has recently assumed the role of Events Coordinator. She officially joined the board in 2016 and is going to Nicaragua in February of 2018. She is thrilled to help out any way she can and excited to work alongside her father and husband.
Alison Warhol, Member
Alison was first introduced to Neighbors to Nicaragua by fellow board member, Michael Lucey. After hearing Michael speak so passionately about the great work being done, she felt inspired to help. She added Neighbors to Nicaragua to the registered charities database with her employer, Barclays, so that her fundraising efforts could be matched by Barclays through a colleague community service program they offer to employees. She has since taken on additional responsibilities within the charity as needed and just experienced her first visit to Nicaragua in November 2016.
Mary Jane Renzette, Secretary
A retired secretary for the Nativity Preparatory School of Wilmington, DE, Mary Jane has been a dedicated partner of Neighbors to Nicaragua since we first began our fundraising and outreach work in 2011. Her attention to detail helps keep our board and the entire Neighbors to Nicaragua team organized and informed about important historical information, finances, meetings, and events.
Nick Vavala, Member
Even before formally joining our board, Nick donated much of his time and talents to Neighbors to Nicaragua, assisting with donation collections, social media promotion, and the organization of our fundraising events, such our recent 5K race. A former English teacher at Wilmington, DE’s Salesianum School, Nick now works as a claims reviewer for the Delaware Claims Processing Facility. He and his entire family have been ardent supporters of our mission since we first began working in Nicaragua.
Camille Dinon, Member
Camille is an accountant at the Delaware River & Bay Authority with over 20 years of experience in finance and accounting. She learned of Neighbors to Nicaragua from her wonderful mother, Mary Jane Renzette, who also encouraged her to join the board in 2017
Joe O'Brien, Member
Joe is one of the newest members of the Neighbors to Nicaragua family. Joe first met our executive director, Chuck Selvaggio, and fellow board member, Nick Vavala, as a student at Wilmington DE's Salesianum School. Joe says he is thrilled to follow in Chuck's footsteps yet again and partner with Nick and the rest of the board in working to further the mission of Neighbors to Nicaragua.
