Neighbors to Nicaragua sends its thanks to all the great people who came out and made our 5K such a success on Saturday! We had a great turn out, a great race, and a great after-party. We appreciate all who supported us and the great people we serve!
It's a walk in the park, or a run in the park. Please register here (www.neighborstonicaragua.com) to join us and help us fund our next project: a ball court for the street children who are getting a second chance at life at Jesus Amigo in Granada, Nicaragua. These children are great kids whose families cannot afford to feed them. Thank you for helping us help them.
"El Portón" (the main gate) has been installed for our school in Pantanal. We have about another month of construction, and then these will be the gates to better lives for many children, thanks to you!
The good people of Delaware Homes' motto is "Here When You Need Us" Well, you can certainly take them at their word. We needed a major sponsor to step in to help us with our upcoming 5k on June 28th & they answered the call. We want to say a very sincere thank you to Barbara, Michael & their entire team at Delaware Homes for believing in the mission of N2N & supporting our event. Thank you all for being there when we, and the children of Nicaragua needed you! Cheers.
Our dear friends in Managua and Granada Nicaragua have been a bit nervous these past few days. They have had a series of earthquakes - as high as 6.2 on the Richter scale - with significant aftershocks. Particularly in Managua, the threat is significant. Last night, the government recommended that people sleep outside to avoid being harmed or killed by crumbling structures. Please keep them in your prayers.
This is José, who will soon be attending the new school we're building in Pantanal. He is a bright, inquisitive young guy, and we plan to hang with him and his colleagues to get him as far as possible in their education. Thanks for helping us help him. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of these great children. If you're interested in helping, please visit us at www.neighborstonicaragua.com
Neighbors to Nicaragua donated $13,000 for the construction of "Casa de Sueños" (House of Dreams), our third and newest school in Nicaragua. In just weeks, the school is well on the way to completion. This school will stand as a beacon of hope in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the world, where (dirty) water arrives in the homes of our children three days a week. Because of your donations, children have structure to learn, to gain self-esteem and to become qualified to succeed, something almost unheard of beforehand. They and their parents have hope. On behalf of Neighbors to Nicaragua and Education Plus Nicaragua (who educates our children), THANK YOU.....Visit us at www.neighborstonicaragua.com
This is Maycól Garcia, the vice-president of Neighbors to Nicaragua. He lives in Granada. Everyday, he works for us, arranging, building, delivering, advising, interviewing, collecting, and much more. He lives in a neighborhood that receives water only 12 hours a day. He spends countless hours working for us, never complains, and does it all for free because he's grateful for the opportunity to help his people. Yesterday, he took a couple hundred dollars of our funds, road the bus to Managua (an hour) with his father, and together they rebuilt the roof over the bedroom of a university student we support because in the rainy season the student has to move out due to leaks. So, we've pooled our own funds to bring Maycól to the US for his first trip to be with us for our first 5K run/walk on June 28th at Dead Presidents. (This photo is from March 17th when we went to the American Embassy to get his visa). We hope you can come out for a worthwhile event to help us raise funds and to meet a great human being! Thank you to the Lancers, the great people of St. Edmond's Academy in Wilmington, Delaware who raised $577 to support our children in our school, Centro Juan Pablo II in Granada, Nicaragua. Our children thank you.
